I spent most of the early 90′s dressed head to toe in hot pink , rocking the side ponytail – crayons in tow. I was a high-energy, non-napper who was a little obsessive about color coordination and extremely detail oreinted. Not much has changed. I found my two passions – design and rowing – in high school. I took as many art classes as I could and became obsessed with French Impressionism, sculpture and graphic design. Around the same time, I found myself at the lake 6 days a week and eventually became a coxswain for the Junior National Team. I was fortunate enough to spend summers (and a winter!) at the US OTC in Lake Placid and Chula Vista.
I left my hometown of St. Louis for the University of Virginia where I lived a double life as a coxswain and architecture student. I continued my competitive rowing career as the varsity coxswain at UVa – winning the head of the Charles and placing second at NCAAs. Time out of the boat was spent holed up in the a-school for the more-than-occassional all-nighter. Between these two passions of mine, I saw more sunrises by the age of 22 than most people will see in an entire lifetime.
Upon graduation, I moved to Spain to work for a small firm in Barcelona. I worked on a few competitions and research in between mojitos and beach days. After a little backpacking stint and 2 weeks sailing around the Mediterranean, I returned stateside to New York City where I now work as a Project Manager in the Architecture dept at Diane von Furstenberg.
